Theatrical Artistic Performers
Biography
From every corner of our society the cries for help and hope for our young can be heard. The churches are praying, the politicians are planning and the private sector seeks to find a way to answer while increasing their revenue.
Western Jamaica is no exception and maybe more so, as there are more options available in the first city. Theatrical Artistic Performers (T.A.P.) was formed out of the obvious need of an artistic institution in western Jamaica.
In a society where there is such great need for expressions for our youths, TAP is the answer for many inner city youths. One of the harsh realities is that there are not enough after school recreation and social outlets for our young Jamaicans so therefore oftentimes they get idle and fall prey to illicit activities and distractions.
TAP wants to take the kids out of the video game rooms and the cable television mode and train them to perform. TAP aims at harnessing young talents, training and molding them in the discipline of the arts and creating future job opportunities for them.
It is our initiative to offer professional training for youths in environments with socioeconomic challenges. TAP in collaboration with Showjam Entertainment Company Limited offers training in all areas of the arts. This union now sees a total entertainment package available in western Jamaica. Showjam with it’s numerous vocal groups, models and technical department, coupled with TAP ensemble, academy and productions; is the ultimate entertainment centre. Always seeking sponsorship, our aim is never to turn anyone away because they cannot afford to pay.
There are many ideas for TAP in the near future as it is a growing entity. There are quite a few job opportunities for dancers and singers on the north coast but the ongoing problem is that there is little or no professional training available outside of Kingston to improve our product. TAP will be offering workshops and seminars in the near future to interested persons who are unable to join our academy full time. TAP is offering the ‘Renny Baugh scholarships’ to schools in western Jamaica and later to inner city youths through community leaders and community service clubs.
TAP is all about giving back to the society and by creating another option for our young people we feel we are helping to sustain a safer and peaceful Jamaica.
